How Future Value works

Future Value tracks where climate, property and capital meet, and asks one question of every story: what does this change for the value of an asset?

What we read

We monitor 1,286 sources every day: regulators, central banks, statistics offices, international bodies, research institutes and specialist newsrooms across Europe, the UK, North America, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America. Primary documents come first. When a story rests on another newsroom's reporting, we say so in the text and link to it.

How we choose

Every item is scored on impact, financial materiality, relevance to real estate, climate relevance, novelty and source quality. A story is published only if it connects at least two of our three pillars: buildings and land, climate, and capital. Commercial potential is one input among ten. It never overrides the others.

How we write

We do not republish other outlets' articles. We write our own analysis, quote sparingly and credit every source by name. Figures we calculate ourselves are labelled "Future Value calculation". Charts are drawn from the numbers in the story, with the source under each one. We write to be read: plain words, a clear opinion, and humour that comes from the facts. The facts themselves are never bent to be funnier.

How we use AI

Software collects and sorts sources and prepares first drafts. The editor checks every figure against its source, edits the text and approves each piece before it is published. Nothing is published automatically. Each article says that AI was used.

Partner links

Some articles and newsletters contain partner links, marked with ↗. If you buy or sign up through one, we may earn a commission at no cost to you. This is how Future Value stays free.

  • Partner links are added after a story is chosen and written. They never decide what we cover or what we conclude.
  • We never put a partner link in a headline, a quotation or a source.
  • Investment platforms appear only in our Explain & act guides, next to their risks and fees and alongside at least one option that earns us nothing.
  • We are not investment advisers. Nothing on this site is a personal recommendation. Investing puts your capital at risk.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we correct it at the top of the article and say what changed and when.

The corrections address goes live at launch.
